Corfu to Paxos and Antipaxos Private Day Trip Guide

October 21, 2026

A successful Corfu to Paxos and Antipaxos day trip begins with three decisions: how you want to travel, how much time you have and what you most want to see. The islands can fit into one satisfying day, but the itinerary is not limitless. For most private-cruise guests, the best plan prioritizes one scenic coastal experience, one generous swim and perhaps one village stop, rather than rushing to every named attraction.

Here is a practical planning framework for the crossing, route and on-the-day choices.

Know your two island destinations

Paxos is the larger island, south of Corfu. Its eastern shoreline includes Gaios and Lakka, with village harbours and relatively sheltered coves. The western coast is more dramatic, with pale limestone cliffs and sea caves where exposure to swell matters.

Antipaxos is smaller and known for its swimming beaches. Greece’s tourism authority highlights sandy Vrika and photogenic Voutoumi. Both are beautiful, but they offer different shorelines and may feel different depending on sea state and boat traffic. Discuss the best stop with the skipper rather than treating one specific beach as guaranteed.

Choose the right way to travel

Ferry and independent island day

A ferry can get you to Paxos without hiring an entire vessel. It works well if your main goal is to explore Gaios or spend longer on Paxos. You will need to arrange any additional Antipaxos beach trip separately, and ordinary ferry travel should not be confused with a sightseeing cruise through the Blue Caves.

Shared day cruise

A scheduled excursion can combine scenic views, swimming and limited time ashore. The advantages are simplicity and a lower price per ticket; the trade-off is a fixed timetable and shared boat space.

Private yacht or RIB

For a group prioritizing privacy or a tailored pace, a private Paxos and Antipaxos cruise lets you discuss stops and duration in advance. The skipper decides the safe route, and the choice of vessel affects both comfort and travel time.

Build the itinerary around priorities

Priority A: The Blue Caves. Ask about the western Paxos coastline and what the operator proposes if swell prevents a close approach. The rock formations can be memorable from outside; entering a cave is not an entitlement.

Priority B: Swimming. If clear water is the dream, reserve meaningful time for Antipaxos. Vrika has a sandy, generally shallower character, while Voutoumi is known for white pebbles and striking blue water. Which bay makes sense depends on conditions and crowding.

Priority C: Village time. Gaios offers a harbour and cafés, while Lakka has a different village atmosphere. Choose one if you want a relaxed lunch or walk; trying both may reduce swim time.

This is the most important tip: tell the operator which priority you would keep if something had to be dropped.

An example flexible day, not a fixed schedule

After boarding in Corfu and completing the safety briefing, the boat heads south. Depending on conditions, the skipper may suggest a view of Paxos’ west coast before heading toward an Antipaxos swimming bay. The group can then visit Gaios or enjoy another sheltered stop, with enough time reserved for the return crossing.

There is deliberately no promise of an exact 45-minute crossing or a mandatory cave entrance here. Departure point, vessel speed, route and conditions determine actual travel time. Ask for an estimated itinerary for your date and yacht.

Five things to confirm before you book

  • Departure point. Verify the exact harbour or meeting place, not just the name “Corfu.”
  • Total hours. Clarify how long the vessel is available and whether any briefings count toward that time.
  • Inclusions. Ask about skipper, route-specific fuel, refreshments, towels, snorkelling gear and access to a toilet.
  • Stops. Distinguish places you will cruise past from places where you can actually stop and swim.
  • Sea conditions. Understand alternatives if the caves or Antipaxos are unsuitable on the day.

What to bring

Pack swimwear, a towel, high-SPF sun protection, a hat with a secure fit, sunglasses, drinking water and a light layer for the journey back. Use a dry bag for valuables. If anyone is prone to motion sickness, discuss prevention with a healthcare professional before travel and inform the operator so comfort can be considered during route planning.

Timing and seasonality

July and August tend to draw more visitors to prominent beaches. May, June and September may offer a different balance of crowds, water temperature and availability, but weather is variable throughout the season. A private trip is a flexible format, not a guarantee of perfect sea conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Corfu day trip include both Paxos and Antipaxos?

Yes, many trips do. The number and length of stops depend on the departure point, vessel and safe cruising conditions.

Do all tours visit the Blue Caves?

No. Cave visits vary by operator and can be changed or omitted for safety.

Should we choose Gaios or Lakka?

Gaios is a practical choice if your group wants the main harbour atmosphere; Lakka offers a smaller bay setting. Choose based on the rest of the route and the time you have.

Is this itinerary suitable for young children?

It depends on the child’s age, the vessel, sea conditions and the total trip duration. Give the operator your children’s ages before committing.

Your best next step

Rather than sending an operator a long list of attractions, send a short brief: number of people, ages if relevant, desired date, preferred budget, and your top two experiences. Ninos Yachts’ Paxos and Antipaxos service can then be discussed around a manageable, weather-aware day.
